While visiting the nine Kiran Model Schools, our journey had its lighter moments. We had stopped to have lunch with a family in a village that was not far from Nagercoil. My wife had read that elephants were frequently found in this area and she asked our hostess if she had an elephant, in much the same way as you would be asking about the family pet. Much to our surprise she said, “Yes, I do!” She said that the elephant had a job standing at the Hindu temple, but that the elephant should be on her lunch break. We then went off in search of the elephant and found her happily eating a lunch consisting of a coconut palm tree. After lunch she then went back to her day job at the Hindu temple and we continued to our next Kiran school.
